Obama's Dirty Wars

The media, and Islamic sympathizers continue to stick their heads in the sand and wax on endlessly about the Arab Spring. They have even branded it for public consumption as the "People's Revolt for Democracy and Freedom". But what we see happening defies that description, and is alarming. The Arab world continues to be mired in wars, violence, killing, reprisals, and power struggles. The spread of radical Islam across the Arab world and into Western countries has been re-branded and is being sold to a gullible western populace as the "Arab Spring". There is absolutely no concrete evidence to suggest that this anything more than the traditional centuries old struggle for power, and that spring will quickly turn into fall, then to winter, as it always has.

CNN has reported that thousands of surface to air missiles have been looted in Libya  Libya's 20,000 man-portable air defense systems, or MANPADS, have gone astray in the midst of the revolution and the toppling of the regime of Moammar Gadhafi. And many tens of thousands more exist around the world.

One of the biggest mistakes we made in Afghanistan was to supply the Muhajadeen with the Stinger surface to air missiles, a shoulder fired surface-to-air-missile that can shoot down both military and civilian aircraft. The U.S. and the CIA went on a massive and intense buy back program and spent years searching for the weapons to get them out of the hands of would be terrorists. As far as they know mostly all have been recovered, but are we doing it again ?

The Ultimate Weapon of Terror

Because MANPADS are easy to transport, conceal, and use -- and because a single successful attack against an airliner would have serious consequences for the international civilian aviation industry -- they are particularly attractive weapons to terrorists and criminals," the State Department report said. "Keeping MANPADS out of their hands is thus a major priority for the U.S. government."

Obama Gives Us More Words.

More words and speeches from the Obama administration. How do you do that when your supplying people with weapons and you don't even know who they are. Reports from Islamic and radical Muhujadeen websites indicate that the Mujaheddin of al-Qaeda in Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) seized the surface-to-air missiles from military depots in Libya. And also claim that AQIM is at least partly involved in the uprising in Libya and is becoming a well equipped genuine army. They hope to make Libya the second Afghanistan, because of it's close proximity to Europe.

The State Department says MANPADS have hit 40 civilian airliners since 1975, resulting in 28 crashes and 800 deaths

White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said that the U.S. was working with NATO and Libya's Transitional National Council on the proliferation is of conventional weapons from there.Why does that not sound reassurring. NATO has a long history of failure, and the we do not know who the Transitional National Council are, Carney tries to spread the blame around in typical Obama administration fashion by saying that weapons proliferation from Libya has been a major concern in Libya for MANY years, maybe so, but for many years we did not go in to overthrow the Khadaffi regime illegally and arm and equip radical elements in the region either. This illegal war is raising more questions than it is answering, and more than likely just empowering and arming our enemies in the region.

No Transparency or Accountabilty

Whatever Obama says in his speeches there is still a considerable doubt as to what his intentions really are. Looking past the "words" and "speeches' we see that his actions continue to have disastrous effects on our economy and our national security. The mainstream media is willing to do his bidding and cover for his illegal wars, and corrupt government. CNN has reported on the looting in Libya, and the NYT has reported on Obama's other secret war in Yemen,  but these stories, like the corruption and graft stories in the U.S., get little attention, or traction in the Obama friendly media. They barely scratch the surface as to what's really going on.

The System Works - sort of.

Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said she knew of no threat from looted Libyan weapons. She is also the one who said "The System Worked" when it was the passengers thwarted an attempt by the underwear bomber to blow up a flight landing in Detroit Christmas Day 2009.

We should be afraid, we are alone, there are no adults in charge - and there is no transparency  or accountability for this administration.

Libya : Let the Bloodletting Begin

The end game is being played out in Libya. Rebel troops sit and await the final push. Armed Libyan factions within the rebel alliance are waiting like panting hound dogs outside the city limits. They are determined, not only to rid the world of Gadhafi but all those within his tribe who benefited from his 42-year rule.

The cycle of violence continues as it has for over a thousand years. The victims become the victimizers, with the U.N., American, French, and British forces picking the winners and losers in the name of protecting the civilians, and promoting democracy and freedom -- Nothing could be further from the truth.

The vendettas in Libya have already begun. Government buildings in Tripoli have been looted. Poor black sub-Saharan African immigrant workers have been beaten and killed They have become targets of Libyan rebels because they fear that they're mercenaries in the employ of Qaddafi. Suspected Gadhafi loyalists or spies have been tortured and assassinated. These killings will get worse.

The National Transitional Council opposes the presence in Libya of U.N. military observers and police, despite widespread atrocities that are being reported. But just as Gadhafi preferred to do dirty work in secret, so will the new regime. It is an old truism, one that has played out repeatedly for over a thousand years in Latin America, Africa, the Middle East, that yesterday’s victims rapidly become today’s victimizers.

The NATO air strikes on the city of Sirte expose the hypocrisy of the“humanitarian” intervention in Libya. Sirte is the last Gadhafi stronghold and the home to Gadhafi’s tribe. When this began six months ago,the United Nations Security Council resolution authorized “all necessary measures … to protect civilians and civilian populated areas under threat of attack.” Now they have become become the very monster they claimed to want to defeat.

Obama has stepped in pile of shit and he knows it. It is obvious that the NATO bombings do not have anything to do with fulfilling the original objectives of UN Security Council resolutions 1970 and 1973. The mission is to assassinate Kadafi. NATO’s claims that it is protecting Libyan civilians are dubious and in fact the main cause of civilians being slaughtered there are NATO sorties, now nearly 20,000 with more than 8,000 bombing sites. NATO has no plans to stop the bombing until one of three events occur. Those three in order of NATO preference are: Gadhafi is killed, Gadhafi “surrenders” or Gadhafi flees Libya.

Preventing civilian casualties is longer a priority , if  it ever really was ?  And NATO is looking forward to the U.N. giving them another month extension, and expects no problem with an expected U.N. extension next month when NATO’s June renewal expires. That may be in large part because because NATO has reportedly been intensively lobbying the White House to bar Gadhafi’s government from the coming UN debate. The Libyan government, which is keeping statistics on NATO-caused civilian deaths, may not even be able to present its facts to the UN meeting next month. The reason is because Secretary of State Clinton has refused to grant Libya’s UN ambassador a visa. Instead Clinton plans to arrange at the last minute for the National Transitional Council to represent the views of those being bombed by NATO.

Even as a major hurricane hit America's eastern seaboard, the administration is determined to expand the war in Libya while threatening the regime in Syria. Is there any limit to government's appetite to create more problems for our nation and economy?

Americans may be tempted to celebrate the apparent victory of US and NATO backed rebels in Libya, since it seems the Gaddafi regime is overthrown. But I believe any enthusiasm for our Libyan misadventure is premature.

The Obama administration attacked Libya without a constitutional declaration of war, without congressional authorization, without meaningful consultation with Congress -- and without a dollar being authorized from the House or Senate. It was a war started by a president who turned to the United Nations for its authority and ignored the authority of the US Congress.

Are we better off as a nation by ignoring and debasing our Constitution? Are we better off having spent more than a billion dollars attacking a country thousands of miles away that had not threatened us? Are we more financially sound having expanded the empire to include yet another protectorate and probable long-term military occupation? Are we more admired throughout the world for getting involved in yet another war?

Still, many will claim that getting rid of Libyan ruler Gaddafi was worth it. They will say that the ends justify the means. As the civilian toll from NATO bombs adds up in a war started under the guise of protecting a civilian population, even the initial argument for intervention is ridiculous. We should not forget that there were no massacres taking place in Libya before the NATO attack. The attack was a dubbed a preventative humanitarian intervention. But as soon as NATO planes started bombing, civilians started dying.

Gaddafi may well have been a tyrant, but as such he was no worse than many others that we support and count as allies. Disturbingly, we see a pattern of relatively secular leaders in the Arab world being targeted for regime change with the resulting power vacuum being filled by much more radical elements. Iraq, post-Saddam, is certainly far closer to Iran than before the US invasion. Will Libya be any different?

We already see grisly reprisals from the US-backed rebels against their political opponents. There are disturbing scenes of looting and lawlessness on the part of the rebels. We know that some rebel factions appear to be allied with Islamic extremists and others seem to have ties to the CIA. They also appear to have a penchant for killing each other as well as supporters of the previous regime. The tribal structure of Libyan society all but ensures that an ongoing civil war is on the agenda rather than the Swiss-style democracy that some intervention advocates suggest is around the corner.

What is next after such a victory? With the big Western scramble to grab Libya's oil reserves amid domestic political chaos and violence, does anyone doubt that NATO ground troops are not being prepared for yet another occupation?

Neo-conservatives continue to dominate our foreign policy, regardless of the administration in power. They do not care that we are bankrupt, as they are too blinded by their desire for empire and their affection for the entangling alliances we have been rightly counseled to avoid. They have set their sights next on Syria, where the US moves steadily toward intervention in another domestic conflict that has nothing to do with the US. Already the US president has called for "regime change" in Syria, while adding new sanctions against the Syrian regime. Are US bombers far behind?
